Stop Words, URL and Page Titles
Are you being misled by some bad SEO advice?

It pays to always be cautious when taking SEO advice.  Some of the replies on an SEO Forum post I responded to recently dolled out highly questionable guidance. To show an example, I’ll paraphrase a poster’s question and post my reply and thoughts.

You can achieve high web rankings in your niche markets. Adhere to search engine guidelines to deliver targeted traffic to your site. Don’t use tricks that can get your site banned from the search engines.  And don’t chase the latest short-cuts.  Just dig in and provide your prospects with the information they are searching for.  Study your competition to understand how your web site fits in search engine rankings  … and where the potential is to rise to the top in your category.  It takes lots of hard work and research to target traffic with solid content.  But it pays off with increased long-term traffic …. targeted traffic.  Begin by dominating your niche market with multiple keyword combinations and long-tail-keywords.

Social Media and Your Business Website

Like most business owners with a website, I am exploring the world of Social Media to determine where to put my best efforts. If you’ve been chasing the latest internet social media trends you are probably by now dizzy from information overload.

You just can’t do it all … and do it all well!

In my mind that means you have to experiment and use Stats Tracking to measure results. You’ll also want to measure other responses to make your decisions: Are sales up or down? Are phone calls to your business on the rise or non-existent? You can tell by the questions your customers ask what they have read on the internet that led to a phone call, email or walk-in. If you can’t, then ASK.

Top 5 Tips for Email Marketers

How to avoid the dreaded “Unsubscribe” Request

It’s clean out email trash day around here again … and I’ve got to shout out (or at) email marketers!

1. The quickest way to a Trash Bin is to oversend emails. Seriously, stop email overkill. I have found myself on the opt-in list of many Internet Marketers who are sending up to 8 emails a day … every day!

Oh my. Do they really think we can’t go a few hours without hearing their latest offer or words of wisdom? Or we’ll forget them if not hounded by email? If your writing isn’t more memorable than that – give it up!

Google SEO – Tight IS Right

‘Farmer’ Algorithm Update: Ezine Articles slapped too?

Even Ezine Articles is vulnerable to Google tightening.  Are you?  Just after the major “corrections”, I posted my SEO View of Latest Google Update.  I’m addressing a reader’s comment because it warrants an update.

Nick commented: Ezine Articles was hit really bad by this update. I heard that their traffic went down massively.”

Yes, it is so true. Twice. The Panda Google Algorithm update hit many website URLs hard in February; then again in April 2011.

Ezine Articles included. It is estimated that Ezine Articles lost 35% of their traffic.

It is this blogger’s understanding that they are fighting back by tightening up and making modifications to their parameters including:

Email Marketing Campaigns: Stop Email Overkill

Posted by on March 13, 2012 at 7:53 am
Sending too many emails will get you un-subscribed …. or un-read.

Now, let me elaborate.   I just spent over an hour Unsubscribing to Email Marketers who abuse the auto responder system.  After months of being overwhelmed daily by Internet Marketing Tips, Tricks, Schemes and Scams,  I’ve had it.  And I’m not alone.

New Internet Marketers say their biggest problem is Information Overload.
Anyone sending daily (or more) emails for months is just adding to the problem and should re-think their email marketing strategy…

Kloutless Influential Topic on Klout.com?

Posted by on March 13, 2012 at 7:53 am

Can Mark Eisner be Influential for topic Kloutless?

So, what’s your take on Klout scores?

On Facebook and Twitter recently Klout has been getting lots of discussion. Mark Eisner of Advanced Land & Water is a small business owner trying to use more Social Media techniques to strengthen his internet presence.  And a fine job he’s doing at it, I might say.  Go Mark!  But even with a high Klout score of 55, he remains Kloutless with no Influential topics at all.  What’s up with that?
