WordPress Website Rank : SEO Tips

Improve your WordPress Website Rank with SEO Tips

SEO Tips to Tweak WordPress Blog quick! I’ve been asked "What tweaks can you make to your overall theme code (if you are able) to improve your site’s overall SEO"? First, let me say that bloggers, business owners, managers or staff can certainly make tweaks within WordPress that will improve their Search Engine Ranking position. Can it take the place of a professional SEO firm? Nope. But that’s for another day.

Let’s improve your WordPress Blog .. Quick!

Let me give you some pointers that will have the quickest impact if you are a DIY webmaster working with a WordPress Website or  Blog. A Quick WordPress Tips How-To for SEO:

  • Set your Permalinks by going to Dashboard / Settings / Permalinks / Click Custom Structure and add /%postname%/. Each of your blog posts will have the name of the blog, date (if set) and post title.

  • Set up your blog post date to appear at the back-end of your URL. There is a lot of controversy in the SEO community on using the date at all.  I still think the date is important to being picked up quickly (often within hours) so I continue to include it at the end of the string.  (I’ll keep you posted should I change my view – always testing!) Code Example: /%postname%/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/

Note:  I have changed my mind and my URLs.  I am now leaving the date out completely but have added the Post # to better keep track on my content.  I have become convinced that unless your content is time sensitive, there is no advantage to including the date of the post.  But Search Engines love numbers so they are automatically added.

  • Separate your  copy into groups with Sub-Headers.  Format sections by Heading and Paragraph. Title = H1 Sub-Title = H2 Sub-Headers = H3 OK, so you’re in Add New Post section.  You click on Visual; Add your Title; Click Format; Choose Type and begin typing Headings and Copy.

  • Add graphic images, when possible,  with Alt Tags and Caption using Keywords.

  • Don’t add more than two keyword phrases to a blog post or you will be fighting against yourself for keyword density – % your key words are used versus other text.

  • Blend primary keywords (2-3 key words) with long-tail keyword phrases (usually 4 words). We’ll talk about this at length later in the series.

  • The final sentence of your Blog Post should also contain your Primary Keyword Phrase.

  • Last but not least, Add the Free WordPress Plug-In:  All In One SEO Pack and follow it’s directions to configure Meta Tags.  You CAN do this in the code instead .. but you wanted a quick fix, right?
