Social Media Basics: Marketing Synergy

Social Media Basics for Small Business:
Create Marketing Synergy

After 30 years in Advertising, Marketing and Media Buying, one of my favorite marketing terms has always been synergy: the working together of two things to produce an effect greater than the sum of their individual effects. It doesn’t get much better than this. The internet super-charges Marketing Synergy for a small business like no other medium.

Social Media Marketing Group – Review

I’ve just joined a Facebook Group called “You Can Do” Social Media Marketing.  This group is new but already extremely active!  Started by Kim Garst of Social Media Branding.com, it looks like it will give new meaning to the concept of “community”.

Already there have been questions about Linked in, Twitter, Facebook, Blogging, the power of WordPress,  etc.  Even discussions on new website projects members are working on, critiques, resources and encouragement.  It’s highly interactive and insightful!

Quickly, it has shown how hungry marketers and bloggers are for information on best practices in social media marketing.

Is an All-In-One SEO Plugin enough to get your website high in search engine rankings (and keep it there?)

Make Money from Home Office

Do you want to learn how to make money from your Home Office online?

Have you considered getting involved in Affiliate Marketing? Ever thought about how to make money with a Blog from your Home Office? If you own a Blog, you should. If you don’t write a Blog …  you should consider Affiliate Marketing to make money on the internet anyway.

Link Building Strategy – Get Real

I don’t like the concept of Link Credits,  Link Clubs or “Click a bunch of random links and a slew of random websites will link to yours”.  You can be certain the Search Engines don’t either.  Get real, folks.

I’m always surprised that the search engines haven’t YET penalized everyone swapping links mindlessly. In 2007 Google clamped down on Link Farms.  But of course, now in 2011 ”link farms” have been replaced with variations of the same.  They’re a bit slicker now.  And harder to detect. But still gimmicks whose sole intent is to boost link popularity for better rank in search engine results.  My advice is to avoid any bad practice or you will get burned.

Power in Re-Purposing Social Media

On my last post I shared a number of options on How to Re-Purpose a Blog Post. A single Blog Post is now turning into multiple products through re-purposing.  Let’s take a look at how specific Social Media vehicles come in to the mix:

  • You’d want to Tweet about each of these projects as they come on-line
  • Include each of them on your Facebook Page over a period of time
  • Ping your Blog Posts to Social Bookmarking Sites
  • Add a Discussion Topic question or respond on Message Boards or Niche Forums
  • Feature portions in your Brand Newsletter
